May Motivational breakfast
Just what the doctor ordered! A dose of motivation, perfectly scheduled for Insurance professionals who face peak time pressure around July renewals. Your IIG hosted the May Motivational breakfast at Scarlet Ribbon in Greenstone on 25 May 2017.
On arrival, early-bird guests had access to a business and networking lounge conveniently set for IIG members to avoid traffic and rather have a relaxing but productive start to the day.
After a networking breakfast, the event MC, Di...scovery Insure's Darryl Grater, who is also part of your IIG council, welcomed all the guests and kicked off with many positive statistics of the world we live in today, compared to a few years ago. Darryl further thanked the event sponsors Africa Re, Digicall, Emerald and Hollard, before it was time to introduce the first guest speaker.
Frank Magwewe, former CEO of Momentum Administration amazed the audience with his personal journey from being homeless to becoming an extremely successful businessman.
Life. Obstacles. You. These were all the parts of the life lessons that Frank learnt.
• LIFE: Find out what's going right in the world and celebrate it, take risks and overcome the inner critic in ourselves.
• OBSTACLES: If you're on a path with no obstacles, it probably leads nowhere. Never get comfortable in the place you don't want to stay.
• YOU: Set clear goals, find meaning, action your plans, reality checks, foster relationships to help along the way, and take time to think.
Next up was the exceptional Paralympic sportsman Ernst van Dyk. His personal story also had great learnings: Dream. Change. Success. Balance.
Being moved from a normal to a special school as a young man, it opened an unexpected door of opportunity to purchase a sports wheelchair. With life's challenges, Ernst held on to his dream, overcame discouragement and eventually went on to win a gold medal at the Paralympics.
He also shared about his pleasures of traveling around the world as well as meeting the late Nelson Mandela. "I met Madiba and got to thank him. As a sportsman you understand that sacrifice gave us the opportunity to compete on a global stage."
Ernst summarised with:
• Have a purpose and set goals
• Bounce back.
• Spread your energy.
Great motivation and inspiration! Guests were then granted a Q&A session with both speakers. This was followed with a further treat to three lucky draws.
Europ Assistance's fortune cookies created much excitement in the room, but it was rather a lucky draw that saw Tracy Hurst from Emerald win a R5 000 cash prize, handed over by Claire Ferreira from Europ Assistance.
Africa Re kept the momentum going by giving away an exciting goodies hamper. Former IIG co-opted council member Colleen Kanniah who is also the Facultative Manager at Africa Re handed over the hamper to the lucky winner Kirk Ridgeway from O'Keeffe & Swartz.
To finish off the exhilarating morning, the Fulcrum preliminary draw for a seat on this year's IIG International, heading for a Hong Kong and Singapore was won by Mmakgomo Motalane from Sasria - Liebie du Plessis from Fulcrum's Group Brand & Marketing handed over the preliminary ticket. The final draw for a spot on this remarkable trip will take place at the end of June.
Your IIG would like to again extend a special word of thanks to the main sponsor Africa Re as well as the co-sponsors of this event: Digicall, Emerald and Hollard.
