Insurance Leadership Development Programme 2019
#YourIIG officially launched the 2019 Insurance Leadership Development programme.
In its fourth year, the ILDP aims to develop and equip senior managers to perform pivotal roles within their company and personally. We will equip delegates with personal leadership and management capabilities, as well as essential differentiating leadership skills allowing them to meet customer needs through innovative means.
25 dedicated insurance professionals have embarked on a learning and leadership journey second to none!
The launch was hosted at GIBS campus in Illovo on the morning of the 25th March 2019, after a delicious breakfast spread and a morning of networking the students and their line managers were welcomed by the GIBS programme manager, Amanda Bougardt, and the 2019 integrator and coach, Bonita Lee-Shew. Amanda and Bonita provided us with a programme overview and a great introduction to this year’s expectations. IIG President Carla Jordan, and Deputy Darryl Grater, took to the stage highlighting the institute’s theme for this year and reminding us all of the importance of education, serving our industry with #PridePurposePassion, and driving the importance of the commitment, hard work and dedication that this programme demands.
Sasria have been a proud sponsor of the ILDP programme since inception, we were honoured to have Mokgadi Malebye as a guest of honour at the launch. Mokgadi is an ILDP graduate and shared with the intake all the positive effects the programme had on her personally and for her organisation. Sasria shared their hopes for the students and wished them every success.
The launch as closed on a highly motivational note with guest speaker, Siphiwe Moyo. He is an organisational behaviour specialist and international keynote speaker who shared phenomenal insights and closing words with the students.

Following the launch, all students were rushed to their first official classroom session. Day one was all about their official orientation, the class were given detailed briefs for the year, assigned to their ALP groups and briefed on their big projects and deliverables for the year. It was a very concentrated first day and at the close the delegates expressed their first day emotions being that of overwhelm, scared, tired, daunted yet still excited.
This years’ theme/Integration, Industry 4.0 (a.k.a. the fourth industrial revolution), a VERY exciting and relevant topic that’s currently receiving a LOT of interest worldwide.
In block 1 ILDP Delegates have a focus on Personal Mastery and Effectiveness. We created an opportunity in the programme for the students to complete a full Multipliers simulation and leadership course. An internationally accredited and world-renowned leadership strategy by Liz Wiseman, this is the first time this simulation was run at GIBS and it was exceptional! A practical application to five core leadership techniques that create a Multiplier mindset for leaders.
Linked to the course content carefully designed by GIBS for the personal mastery module there is no doubt that our ILDP learners now have the first set of tools and skills required to be effective leaders in our industry. At the end of four intense days, the emotive descriptors saw that ‘tired’ had moved to ‘exhausted’ but also included confirmation that students were feeling highly motivated, encouraged, and energised to make an immediate difference in their workplace.
During these four days, we all learnt a lot about ourselves, the stance of our organisations leadership structures and how we can contribute to a positive growth and multiplying mindset to ourselves, and our environments.
Over the next few weeks the delegates will be working on their projects, assignments and studies. The next study block is scheduled to start on the 27th May.
A very big thank you to our programme sponsor: Sasria SOC, for your unwavering commitment to insurance leadership and education. We’d also like to thank all the students’ line managers and companies for their support of their students.
Stay close to IIG social media as we feature each of the students allowing you to better know our industries’ future leaders and follow them on their learning journey.
